1. Use the Right Steel

AR500 or AR550: Industry standards for most calibers.
Avoid mild steel: It’s too soft and can deform or fragment dangerously.
Never use scrap metal or curved surfaces (like I-beams): These increase ricochet risks.

2. Proper Target Setup

Whether fixed or swinging, AR500 steel targets should always be hung at least 20° downward. A properly angled target helps absorb the bullet’s shock and deflect bullet fragments into the ground.
